Introducing Covid-19 in 19 Mins

icon About

Mission

  1. Educating underrepresented people and non-native English speakers on the basic knowledge of COVID-19
  2. Raise the awareness of COVID-19 among young generations

Why did I start this project

  1. Have grandparents at home who speaks only Chinese. They could only refer to COVID-19 guidelines in China, but they don’t have access to info in the US because of the language barriers. This puts them at higher risk.
  2. My parents are healthcare workers working at the frontlines. My mom workers as a primary care physician in Seattle and my dad is a scientist, also a healthcare worker in Wuhan at the beginning of the year.
  3. I’ve noticed that at the beginning of the pandemic teens aren’t very aware of how contagious the Coronavirus is.

What we do

  1. Translate a COVID-19 informative presentation and making it into videos
  2. Collaborating with Students4Covid on the information check, and Students4Covid translation team on the translation check
  3. Students4Covid is a group of medical students from across the world in multidisciplinary areas coming together to fight for the pandemic

Achievements

  1. Gathered over 200 teenagers across the world, partnering with about 20 youth initiatives across the US (each initiative is the project manager of a specific language group)
  2. Released about 20 videos in different languages on our Youtube channel Appily Day
  3. Sponsored by Chinese American Civic Association, a nonprofit organization, honored the gold level sponsorship among this year’s youth projects, receiving the largest amount of monetary fund $900
  4. Interviewed by Chinese Radio Seattle
  5. Was invited to the Students4Covid webinar as the only high school students organization; a webinar panelist with medical associations from Germany, Brazil and Nigeria
